Day and Age

Today is the release of the Killers' new album Day & Age. I'm really excited for it because the killers are one of my favorite bands. I still rank their debut album Hot Fuss as one of the best cds ever. However with their 2nd disc Sam's Town, They tried to change their sound. They were oringially a las vegas glam rock band but on this disc they sounded like a glam band trying to sound like typical American band. Sam's town was good but the change in style really dragged it down. I've heard a bit of the new album and it sounds like they got their act together and went back to their glam rock style. I still need to get down to curcuit city, that's where I can pick it up the cheapest. Since I still haven't found a new job I need to buy things as cheap as possible.

What's Up Now?

Well my college work is what's up now. There's only 2 weeks left in the school year and we've now reached that time where everyone is worried about passing their classes. I am really worried about my classes. Mostly my Algebra and Legal Business classes. I've yet to see a single passing grade in either class and I've got 3 more tests in each class. I have one online tomorrow for Business and 1 on Monday after the Thanksgiving break for algebra. I seriously hate algebra, math is my biggest weakness. I think what pisses me off the most about it is that algebra has nothing to do with my major in college. oh well maybe a miracle will happen and I'll pull a C in that class.

Bye Bye Publix

Okay this is going to be long...

After almost a year of "suffering" I finally managed to get the nerve to leave the job I've hated so much. Since the last time I posted something on this blog, things had kinda gone downhill at publix. At the start of August there was this big manger switch where all the mangers basically moved to a different store. The new manager of the bakery is now a woman named Tracy. The 1st problem with Tracy was that she was alittle too anal, wanting everything to completely spotless. Penny, the old manager, wanted things clean but not spotless. She didn't see the point in making things spotless when the bakery was just gonna get trashed the next day. Not so with Tracy. Tracy also had this annoying new method to set doughnuts and bread that took 30 mins longer than the old method and there wasn't a improvement the quality of these items to justify the new set-up method that she was forcing on us.
She was a fairly strict boss and nit-picked everything. At the start of last month I was supsended for a week because I was found out that I had 10 days out of the whole year where I forgot to clock out for lunch...I'm dead serious. I actually treated the punishment more like a vacation and also used the time to find another job. I know I was suppose to find another one after Damon quit but I just keeped putting it off. When I got back to work The store manager Jennifier was constantly on my ass and kept giving me this "I'm better than you look" that really made me want to slap her (I do not approve of violence against women, I do approve of violence against a-holes). This went on for about a couple of weeks until those to 2 horrible managers wrote me up because I messed up a cake order (I placed it on the wrong day). After they pretty much blew up over that small mishap, I decided that I didn't care if I found another job or not and call in the inform them of my choice which pissed them off since the bakery is very very very under employed (and it's not hard to see why).
So yeah, I've been unemployed since tuesday and I've come to enjoy it alittle. My school work has been a bit overwheming so it nice to have some form of free time for awhile. I really won't miss Publix too much, From day one I wasn't too hyped about it and like most people it was just a job to get money. The only thing I really gained from working there was about 3 good friends (Damon, Alice, and Evan) which something I don't gain very often. Oh well, let's hope I'm not unemployed for too long.

Sweet Freedom

As of Wedensday night, I finally finished my 12 day work week and I got 2 days to rest up before I have to go back to being tortured there for a couple of days again. If course I've really failed at using these off days to recoperate. Last night I went with my co-worker Evan and his 2 friends to play paintball. This was the second time I decided to this with and I actually managed to do better than I did the first time, although the first time I actually managed to hit someone, this time I managed to survive a lot longer and move around the field a bit better. The injuries I substained this go round were less servere exculding a powerful blow to my left hand that drew alittle blood. Tonight I'm all set to go to the movies to see The Dark Knight with my friend Damon (the one who quit publix) and his girlfriend. I've never met her but I really wish he wouldn't bring her along. Anyway, I'm not really use to being this social, the fact that I actually invited someone to do something with me is pretty progressive for overall shy nature. Well tonight I'm gonna see if I can if I can't break down some my reserved nature.

E3 08: Nintendo Impressions

Okay so last year Nintendo kinda bombed at the their press conference. This came as a result of them spending too much time focusing on gloating over their glorious comeback and not enough time focusing on their actual games. They failed to present anything of value apart from the release dates of 3 games we wanted, and they only unveiled two games to the masses: Mario Kart and Wii Fit. This year is even worse. The main problem with this year's conference is that Nintendo seemed to just flat out ignore the hardcore games and focus entirely on the casual market. There's no Mario, Zelda, Kid Icrus, or Pikmin titles that were revealed as everyone expected and hoped, So my favortive games that were revealed for nintendo wii and ds were titles that were revealed weeks piror like Wario Land: Shake it and Kirby Super Star Deluxe. There were 4 titles that were annonunced at the actually managed to get me a little interested even though they were causal games.

Animal Crossing: Okay I haven't played the other 2 games in the series, but I think I'm ready to at least give it a try. It was the first of 2 hardcore titles revealed in the show and this one is fairly interesting because Nintendo will finally be jumping on the online voice chat band wagon with it's new Wii Speak addition. I like this because it's not a headset like X-Box Live so the parents can keep their eyes on what's going on with the kids and what they are saying, which is something the parents needs to do with their kids on X-Box Live.

It's also worth noting that around this time it was stated that teams that work on the Mario and Zelda titles are working on games right now. Could have told alittle more about these games, but nooooo... they felt it was more important to talk about the sales of Wii...NOBODY CARES!!!! everyone already knows how well the wii and ds are selling.

Wii Sports Resort: Everyone loves Wii sports so it no surprise that evryone will love this follow-up. I don't really have much to comment on with this game, but my whole family loved the oringal so I don't think I have a choice but to pick up a copy. My only concern is that the game needs to have a bit more content if I actually need to spend money on the game. The orignial was great game that we got for free and I know that I personally would not have spent the money on it if was sold apart from the console.

Grand Theft Auto Chinatown Wars: Okay so it's okay for nintendo to release GTA on handheld, but not on the home consoles (not that I'd want to play it, if I have to play GTA it will be on 360 or PS3), but playing GTA on the DS would been nice if has more in common with it's console brothers that the horrible top-down game boy verisons of it.

Wii Music: I've wnted this one since the launch of the Wii and was worried that it wasn't coming, but it's here now and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I Think it's a nice alterative to rock band in that sense that you won't have large drums and guitars taking up space in yuor living room.

And that's it. I, like many others, wish there were more titles from their mainstream franhises, but i understand Nintendo is still still trying to grab some of those casual gamers that are still on the fence about the Wii. However they should be a bit more wary of this, while they know that they already have the hardcore audience that owns the system for mario and smash bros, and they have done a great job keeping us happy over the last year with Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros Brawl, they need to keep these people happy to ensure that they don't jump ship.

E3 08: X-Box 360 Impressions

So Mircosoft's E3 press confrence has just ended and after watching G4's coverage of it. I thoguht I've share some of opinions. Last year Mircosoft's E3 showing impressed me so much that I finally decided that the 360 would be sitting alongside my Wii by year's end. This year Mircosoft left me in the middle of the road, but there is still somethings for me to excited about.

Fable 2: I didn't play the first fable since I didn't own an X-box at the time. But from what some of my friends told me, it seems to be a very intresting title. Peter Molyneux, the game's creator, show small demo of what was to come in this RPG. The central idea here is that you start the game out as little boy or girl and watch yourself grow up to become the hero of your people. Along the way you can be a good person or bad person (a standard in gaming these days), get married and interact with the various people found in the game. Suppose to released in October if my memory serves me right.

Gears Of War 2: Another follow-up to a game I didn't play, but i've always wanted to. It looks like I'm gonna need to get a hold of a copy to catch up on the story, because I'm excited for this one. I've never been to big on shooter titles and have only recently started to find some degree of interest in them. I find it interesting (for those that even care) that the star of the game, Marcus, is voiced by the same person that does the voice of Bender from Futurama. From the demo we were shown, It looks like Gears 2 will have many of the same elements that made the first game a huge hit. Non-stop shooting and hulking adverseries abound and the AI looks fairly challenging.

The New X-box Live Interface: This fall Mircosoft will be taking a page a from Nintendo and Sony's handbooks and finally allow there users the abiltity to create their own avatars. They look like the Miis only with a bit more detail. The menu system will also get an upgrade to a fairly slicker design choice. More interaction with your online friends is always a good thing and I think it's really neat to be able to watch movies with online frineds over X-box live.

X-Box Live Games: The new Portal game titled Portal: Sill Alive will hit the X-box arcade by the end of the year. Like everyone esle on the face of the planet, I loved the original and can't wait to download this. Also of note is a new game based on South Park, which I'll keep my eye on this even though the other games based on the show were awful. Sadly no info on the title was given.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts: Like many fans of the Banjo-Kazooie series, I'm not in the least happy with the new aspects of this long awaited revival of the series. The whole platforming elements that made the series a hit have been downplayed for custom vechicles and mini-games. I just think this is the wrong direction for the series at this time. Had the Banjo-Kazooie franchise been a bit more active in the last 8 years, the gameplay of Nuts & Bolts would be a lot more welcome, afterall, you've got to change up the formula sometime. However as the grand return of a franchise that has been (more or less) dead for the last 8 years, It would have a been a little wiser for Rare to keep things in line with the first 2 titles. But hey, maybe I'm wrong, and the game will actually turn out to be good. I will be checking this game out come it's release, I just won't have my hopes up.

Banjo-Kazooie On X-Box Live: Now this gave me a nice big smile. The orignial classic N64 title will be released on X-Box live arcade around the time Nuts & Bolts is released. It will also have some form of connectivity with Nuts & Bolts as well. I can't wait to download this game as it is one of my favortive N64 games.

New Guitar Hero & Rock Band Games: I'm interested in these games, but I don't understand why they felt like they needed to spend so much time talking about these 2 titles. I mean sure there are new feaures in the Guitar Hero game (like a drum kit that kind of defeats the purpose of GUITAR hero), but the only thing we really wanted to know about these games was the music, which turns out to be great once again.

Final Fantasy 13 on X-Box 360: I was surprised by this one and it was Mircosoft's biggest annoucement in the conference. Although I'm not too big of a Final Fantasy fan (I've only played like 5 games in the fanchise), I just had to get excited like everyone else. Mircosoft getting ahold of another PS3 title is going to really hurt the PS3 here in the U.S (In japan i'm sure this won't make to much of a differance).

Overall, Mircosoft had a very strong showing . I think they did a really good job showing off the games they had available for both the hardcore and casual gamers. It also interesting to note that a majority of the hardcore titles are coming from third party companies instead of mircosoft themsevles. Very good showing, Can't wait for some of these games. And I can't wait for Nintendo's Conference tomorrow.

Alot of Work To Do

I feel like I’ve been royally screwed over at my job, which wouldn’t be the first time I assure you. To put it simply, I’ve been working since Saturday and was just basically forced by my manager to work on Friday which was the only day off I had for this week. Then she pretty much told that my next day off will be next Thursday. So I’m working 12 days straight. The reason I’m irritated by this is because this is all a result of poor planning on my manager's part. You see over in the Publix bakery where I work, we had Damon (a good friend of mine) up and quit last week. Damon and myself were the only 2 people who work the closing shifts in the bakery so when he left, so did my off days. Originally, this week I was suppose to have today and Friday off, but of course the manager decided that I should close today and Nick should close on Friday. Nick usually works the day shift, but he does the closing shifts anytime both me and Damon were unable to. Now due to some odd circumstances when another person that works day shifts on Friday, the manager needs Nick to help her during day and needs me to close. My problem is that this would have been avoided had she switched the days: have nick close tonight and let me close on Friday. I had to work 6 days in this work week, it would make more since for me to have a off day in the middle of the week instead of the very end . But because the manager doesn’t think straight when comes to scheduling the night shift people, I now have to work 12 days straight. Of course, it isn’t all too bad, My paycheck will be very big and after the dental appointment I had earlier today, I’m going to need every penny. I seriously can’t stand my job, but I suppose that isn’t too big of shock to anyone reading this. I mean at least 65% of the U.S work force dislike their current occupation. I’m hoping to follow Damon’s lead in the next few weeks and acquire a improved line of work. I hope I'm able to gain one before this place drives me frickin’ insane.

Intro

I've decided to start a weblog so I can more easily share my opinions no one's asking for. Sometimes I'll talk about my boring life and other times I'll stick to hopefully-interesting topics that distract me from whatever I'm supposed to be doing.
